Rafael Benitez has urged his players not to allow PSV Eindhoven back into tomorrow night’s Champions League quarter-final at Anfield.
The Dutch side trail 3-0 following Liverpool’s outstanding performance in Eindhoven last week and although Benitez accepts his side are close to a place in the semi-finals, he knows the danger of allowing Ronald Koeman’s side a lifeline in the tie.

He said: “We are in a good position, we know that. It’s not normal to be 3-0 up before the game starts and while I’d like to be in that position more often, we need to be careful.

“We’re the favourites to go through and sometimes that can add pressure. PSV know they have nothing to lose and have no pressure on them at all. If I was their manager I’d be telling the players to look for an early goal and I’m sure that’s what they are going to do.

“We have experience and we know how to manage this situation. We need to be professional and focused and make sure we all do our jobs.

“This is a massive game for us. It’s probably going to be easier for our fans because they will be coming to the game thinking the job is already done, but we know that we still have a lot of hard work ahead of us.

“This is a very important trophy and we will do our best to go as far as we can. At the moment we are swimming and we’re getting closer to the beach, but we know that we could drown at any time. We need to keep swimming until we reach the beach. That’s why we need to keep our focus and make sure we keep playing well.”
