John Arne Riise was in fine form for Norway when he set up two goals in their 2-1 friendly win over Javier Mascherano‘s Argentina.
The Reds number six won a penalty and then set up a goal for Aston Villa striker John Carew with an excellent delivery from a free-kick. Mascherano started the game for Argentina.

On a busy night of international matches Liverpool had 15 players on international duty for their country.

Meanwhile Dirk Kuyt scored for Holland as the Dutch lost 2-1 to Switzerland in a friendly international. The Liverpool striker and Ryan Babel both came on as half-time substitutes for Marco Van Basten’s side.

Promising midfielder Lucas Leiva won his first official Brazil cap when he came on as a sub in their 2-0 friendly win over Algeria in Montpellier, while Sami Hyypia played the full 90 minutes for Finland in their vital 2-1 Euro 2008 qualifier win against Kazakhstan.

As for the Reds Spanish trio, Pepe Reina played the full 90 minutes for Spain in their 3-2 friendly win in Greece. Fernando Torres also started the game and played for 47 minutes while Xabi Alonso appeared as a 64th minute substitute.

Back on local shores Peter Crouch came on as a 56th minute substitute for Alan Smith as England were beaten 2-1 by Germany at Wembley. Scott Carson was an unused substitute.

It was despair for Daniel Agger but joy for Steve Finnan as the Republic of Ireland won 4-0 in a friendly in Denmark. Agger played the full 90 minutes while Finnan started the game and played for 61 minutes.

Yossi Benayoun was also in action and played for Israel in their 2-1 defeat in Belarus, and Andriy Voronin started for Ukraine in their 2-1 friendly win against Uzbekistan.
