LIVERPOOL V PSV: THE FINAL WORD

Peter Crouch’s seventh goal in the Champions League this season ensured Liverpool’s safe passage through to the semi-finals after a 1-0 win on the night and a 4-0 aggregate victory over PSV Eindhoven. Here’s the best of the post-match analysis.

The Liverpool manager

“We are very happy to be in the semi-finals of the Champions League and I have a lot of confidence in my team against Chelsea. We know them well and they know us. They have a very good squad and are very dangerous on the counter attack but we have a good squad as well. I thought tonight it was a difficult game. They had a lot of possession but when they had a player sent-off it was easier for us and Crouch scored again. I hope he can keep on scoring all the way to the final of the Champions League.”
Rafael Benitez

The Liverpool player

“It was a case of getting the job done on the night and that’s what we did. It was never a spectacular game but we needed to be professional and we did the right things. All the lads were up for it before the game so there was no problem on that score. I think if it had stayed 0-0 then we would have shown more urgency to try and make sure we got a winner. I’m really pleased to have scored the goal. I’ve done well in this competition this season and I think my form of late has been good. Now we can look forward to the games with Chelsea. They’re a tough team so we know it’s going to be difficult, but we’re all desperate to get back into another final and for me it would be a dream come true if we could do it.”
